GrabNConvert

What's new.

Every version, in plain words. The app updates itself; installers for each version are on the download page.

v1.0.11

Pictures come out at exactly the size you typed

Fixed

  • Pictures: a custom size with "Fill the box" or "Stretch" now always comes out at exactly that size. A picture smaller than the box was left at its own size (a 1208 × 1050 photo stayed 1208 × 1050 instead of 1600 × 1051). "Don't enlarge small pictures" now applies to "Fit inside", one side and the preset sizes.
v1.0.10

Cloud drives, and the Mac's AI tools work again

New

  • Cloud drives: paste a share link from Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, MediaFire or pCloud and the app saves the file itself, any kind (a zip, a PDF, a video), under its own name and at its original quality. Google Docs, Sheets and Slides come as Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, a Dropbox folder as a zip, and a plain link to a file works the same way. A broken download continues where it stopped.
  • Download window: Dropbox Transfer, WeTransfer and MEGA links open in a window inside the app. Press Download there and the files land in your folder, in the queue like any other download.

Fixed

  • Mac: Separate voice and music, Remove background and saving PDF pages as pictures failed with "could not be loaded". macOS refused the engines the app downloads; it now lets them load. The Voice recorder asks for the microphone properly too.
  • A video that only plays in some countries said "removed or the link is wrong". The app now says it isn't available in your country, names the countries where it plays, and asks you to turn on a VPN app and try again. Settings → Network is gone; a VPN app on the computer does the job.
  • Send to phone on Android is much faster and keeps going when the phone's screen locks; a broken transfer continues instead of starting over, the Phone page says "Paused · waiting for the phone" instead of a bar that never moves, and the Mac keeps full speed in the background. A bigger QR code, shorter text.
  • The top bar's Media, Pictures and Files menus have their own icons and a small arrow.

v1.0.9

Send to phone, ZIP files and more for Folder convert

New

  • Send to phone: drop a file and pick Send to phone, or use the Phone page. Scan one QR code once; after that, files you send show up on the phone right away, with a big Save button (pictures and videos go into Photos on an iPhone). Photos and videos from the phone come back the same way. Same Wi-Fi, nothing goes online.
  • ZIP files: drop a .zip and pick Open the ZIP to use what is inside with any tool, or convert the whole thing with Folder convert.
  • Folder convert does more: for each kind, choose what to do. Pictures: convert, remove the background, make stickers or one PDF per folder. Videos: convert, subtitles, or voice and music apart. Songs: convert, separate or a transcript.
  • Proxy: downloads can go through your VPN app's proxy (Settings → Network), and a video blocked in your country now says how to get it.
  • Report a problem: one click makes a report on your Desktop; nothing is sent unless you email it.
  • The Go menu lists every tool, and every progress bar in the app looks like a download's.
v1.0.8

Folder convert, a smart clipboard, PDF and video tools, and a dozen new pages

New tools

  • Folder convert: pick a folder and the scan counts every picture, video and song inside it, folder by folder. One setting per kind, copies beside the originals or in one place, files done before are skipped. The whole folder is one batch in the queue.
  • PDF tools: merge, split, keep the pages you want in any order, turn sideways pages, make a PDF smaller, put your signature on it, make one PDF from photos or scans, or save the pages as pictures.
  • Video tools: reshape a video for Reels, TikTok, Shorts or YouTube, turn or mirror it, change the speed (voices keep their pitch), take the sound out, add your logo, join clips, save stills. Steady, Brighten and Less grain fix hand-held, dark and noisy footage. Social pack makes every copy social media wants in one go, subtitles burnt in if you like.
  • Screenshot: ⇧⌘6 (Ctrl+Shift+6) in any app. An area, a window or the screen, then arrows, boxes, highlights, text, a blur over private bits and a crop. Copy it, save it, keep it on the shelf, or copy its text.
  • Phone transfer: scan a QR code with a phone on the same Wi-Fi and send photos, videos and files to the computer, or take the shelf's files on the phone. No app on the phone, nothing goes to the internet.
  • Rename and organise: tidy names for many files at once from a pattern, find and replace, letter case and numbering; sort them into folders by kind, month or extension. Live preview, nothing overwritten, undo.
  • Free space: find the files you have twice and the fifty biggest, then move what can go to the Trash.
  • Sticker maker, Thumbnail maker and Voice recorder: WhatsApp and Telegram stickers (animated ones from a video or GIF), a 1280 × 720 YouTube thumbnail with a headline over the frame you pick, and one-press microphone recordings that Whisper can write down.
  • Subtitles in another language: pick Bangla, Hindi, English or 17 other languages and the subtitles are translated on your computer before they are saved or burnt in. A subtitle file you already have can be translated too.
  • Images → SVG traces a logo, icon or drawing into shapes that stay sharp at any size.
  • Right-click menu: Finder's Services menu on a Mac, a GrabNConvert menu in Explorer on Windows. Compress, Convert, Remove background, Make a PDF, Subtitles, Rename or Keep on the shelf, straight from the file.

Clipboard

  • Smart clipboard: a page that remembers what you copy (texts, links, pictures, files), only on this computer and only once you turn it on. Search, pin, copy back. Texts get tools that fit them: a sum, a colour, change case, sort lines, tidy JSON, a QR code. Password managers' copies are never kept.
  • Clipboard popup: ⌥⌘V (Ctrl+Alt+V) in any app opens your history at the top of the screen; pick an item and it is pasted into the app you were in.
  • The shelf: keep files to hand, drag them into any app, AirDrop or share them, make a ZIP, or open them with a tool.
  • Copy text from a picture in the clipboard history, on the shelf and in Screenshot, with the computer's own text recognition.

Downloads and queue

  • Copy a video link anywhere and the mascot comes out of the notch (Mac) or drops in at the top of the screen (Windows) with the download options. "Notice copied links" in Settings turns it off.
  • The queue shows a batch as one row with its count and one progress bar; pause, resume, cancel or retry all of them, or unfold the files.
  • The top bar holds every tool in three menus (Media, Pictures, Files); dropping files offers more choices; the website's motion has come to the app.

Fixed

  • Updating from 1.0.4 to 1.0.5 failed with "Invalid symbol 123": the update feed carried the wrong signatures. The feed is rebuilt and checked before every release now.
  • Rename's file picker showed only videos, songs and pictures; it now takes any file.

v1.0.5

Separator, Subtitles, Audio tools, Images and a screen recorder

New

  • Separator: split a song or a video's sound into voice and background (karaoke), four stems or six (adds guitar and piano), on your computer. Apple Silicon Macs and Windows.
  • Subtitles: writes what is said in a video or a sound file, in Bangla, English and ninety other languages. A subtitle file, a subtitle track, words on the picture, or a plain transcript; Translate to English with one switch.
  • Audio tools: clean the noise, cut the silences, even out the loudness, add tags and cover art, to MP3, M4A, WAV or FLAC.
  • Images: convert and resize pictures to JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF from almost anything, iPhone HEIC included; location details never copied. Remove background keeps just the subject on a see-through background (Apple Silicon Macs and Windows).
  • Screen recorder (Mac): ⇧⌘2 or the menu bar; the video zooms in where you click and follows the pointer, saved up to 4K.
  • A new Home: drop any file and every tool that fits is offered, in the app and on the notch. Notch drop on the Mac also takes pictures dragged off web pages.
  • Every page has a ⚙ Settings button with its defaults; the queue button floats in the corner with a progress ring and a small panel to pause or cancel each job; new solid icons.
  • The AI tools download their model once, the first time you use them, and then work offline.

Fixed

  • Compressor: the "Share to" buttons no longer run over the hint below them.

v1.0.4

Pause and resume, a tour, and opt-in error reports

New

  • Pause a download or conversion in place and resume it later from the same point; the queue's Pause freezes running jobs too.
  • Settings → Send error reports (off by default): a short report with the version, platform, stage and the scrubbed error text when a job fails. Never file names or full links.
  • A one-minute tour on the first launch; the mascot on Home is the help button.
  • Press ⌘ (Ctrl)/ for the keyboard shortcuts. Light theme: a clearer status display and stronger switches.
v1.0.1

Faster downloads, Google Drive originals, and a "What's new" popup

New

  • Faster downloads: big files arrive in up to 16 pieces at once, the way download managers do (aria2 inside). Google Drive links and direct video files gain the most.
  • Google Drive: the file exactly as uploaded is offered as "Original file" and chosen for "Best available". Before, only Google's 1080p transcode was listed.
  • A new version introduces itself in a popup with what changed; "Later" keeps it in the banner.

Fixed

  • When the faster engine cannot be used on a site, the download quietly falls back instead of failing.
v1.0.0

GrabNConvert 1.0: a new look, a mascot, and every word in your language

New

  • New look: the Night and Cream palettes from the icon, purple primaries, and a mascot that reacts to what you do, on Home, in the queue and on each page, plus a menu-bar icon that chews while jobs run.
  • Browser button: drag it once from grabnconvert.com/button to your bookmarks bar; one click on any video page sends the link to the app.
  • 14 languages, completely: every label, hint, menu, error and dialog is translated. Bangla and Hindi use Noto Sans fonts bundled with the app.
  • Settings → Updates: current version and one Check / Install button.

Fixed

  • The update banner is shown (versions 0.5.2 and 0.5.3 checked for updates but never displayed one). It now appears above every page, and checks retry on a flaky connection.
  • No more one-second "Could not reach the account service" screen at launch; Home opens straight away.
  • Trimmed downloads a site cannot serve as a section fall back to a full download and an exact local trim; embedded subtitle and thumbnail sidecar files are cleaned up.
v0.5.3

Reliable trimmed downloads, and the lifetime licence

Improved

  • Trimmed downloads that the site cannot serve as a section now fall back to a full download and an exact local trim, instead of failing.
  • Subtitle and thumbnail sidecar files are cleaned up once they have been embedded.
  • Split-by-chapters verified on a real seven-chapter video.

Account

  • Lifetime licence can be bought from the account page; the app unlocks within a minute.
  • Home and Settings → Account show the plan and offer the upgrade.
v0.5.2

Intel Mac and Windows installers

New

  • First release built by the automated pipeline: macOS Intel and Windows installers join Apple Silicon.
  • Signed update bundles for all three platforms, so later versions install from inside the app.

Fixed

  • Hardware encoders are tested before use. A listed but unusable NVENC, Quick Sync, AMF or VideoToolbox encoder no longer fails the job; it falls back to software.
v0.5.1

Updates itself, sign in on the website

New

  • Automatic updates: a banner on Home when a new version is ready, "Install and restart", and Check for updates in About.
  • Sign in with Google on the website; the app picks the session up with a one-time code. Nothing passes through a URL.
  • Account page: your plan, the computers on the account, Remove, and Sign out everywhere.
  • 7-day trial starts at first sign-in; one account works on two computers.
v0.5.0

First public release

Download

  • Paste a link; the real qualities with sizes. Playlists as rows with tick boxes. Save as MP3. Batch paste and link lists.
  • Subtitles (embedded or .srt), cover art, trim before download, resume after cancel, plain-language errors.

Convert and compress

  • MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM; MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC; GIF and PNG. Trim with a filmstrip, chapters kept or split, audio track and loudness.
  • Share-size presets (WhatsApp, Discord, Email, Messenger) and target size. Hardware encoding with VideoToolbox, NVENC, Quick Sync, AMF.

Queue and app

  • One queue with percent, speed, time left, bitrate and encoder. Pause, schedule, quiet hours, speed cap, watch folder, saved presets.
  • Menu-bar progress, notifications, history, 14 languages, dark and light, status display, engine updates from inside the app.
